James’ Personal Story

“I believe there is no higher calling than walking a spiritual path and connecting with a Higher Consciousness. But like others, I was deterred by the dogma and limitations of organized religion until I began to understand that dogma was unnecessary. All I needed was willingness to be still, to listen, and to let the journey take me where it may. It was all inside. Life began to get better and much more interesting.

I did not come to this awareness easily. I only began a more spiritual journey later in life, even though I had been a seeker throughout. I was always looking outside of myself for things and activities to fill up that spiritual void. Eventually, I realized it was in me all along, just like it’s in you.

The past few years of my life have included a life-threatening disease, major heart surgery, deep personal loss, and untreated alcoholism. All of this led to profound healing and an awakening to a Higher Power working in my life. It’s up to us to connect to it.

My intention here at 11th Step Mediation is to simply offer what I have learned, share my own experiences and stories, and teach some of the practices that have helped me begin a refreshing new way of looking at and experiencing life.

I say this all humbly, because it’s work. It requires practice and showing up for yourself day in and day out. And it requires self-love. I struggled with self-love and self-esteem for a very long time. Knowing that – and being willing to admit it – was a very important step along my journey.

Finally finding and walking my spiritual path has been the most satisfying thing in my life.

I hope you’ll find something that interests you here at 11th Step Meditation. It would be my honor to help you.”
